A shelf-life number should come from relevant evidence, not from a familiar ingredient or a competitor’s label. Define the finished system before setting the claim.
Treat the package as part of the product
The pouch, can, seal and storage conditions all matter to the proposed shelf life. Records for a raw ingredient or another packaging format may not describe the final product. Ask which formulation and package configuration the supporting information covers.
Agree the acceptance criteria
Identify the attributes that need to remain within specification and the methods used to assess them. Sensory change, physical condition and relevant analytical or microbiological requirements should be considered by qualified parties. A single attractive sample is not a stability program.
Connect label and storage wording
The declared shelf life and storage instructions should align with the actual evidence. If the formula, package or supply route changes, review whether the existing support still applies. Keep the rationale and approved version with the product specification.
Put the decision into your project record
Use a short record that names the product or sample version, the decision required, the supporting information and the person responsible for approval. If a point is unresolved, record the next action before moving to the following approval. This makes the discussion more useful than a general request for the “best” formula or package.
For a production quotation, identify each SKU and its quantity. The current minimum is 3,000 cans per SKU and 9,000 cans per order. Sample evaluation is discussed separately and does not create a production order.
Questions to bring to the discussion
What should I send with this question?
Include the target market, product direction, relevant sample or model code and the decision you want to make. Attach current specifications or evidence where available.
Does this guide establish product effectiveness?
No. It is sourcing and development guidance. Finished-product suitability, claims and commercial terms require a project-specific review.
