A useful manufacturing agreement describes responsibilities more precisely than the initials OEM, ODM or CDMO. Start by asking who owns each specification and approval.
Start with the decisions already made
If your brand already has an ingredient list, a reference sample and a complete specification, the discussion is different from a project that begins with an idea. Identify which decisions are fixed, which can be adapted and which require development. A can photograph alone is not a manufacturing specification.
Assign each deliverable
List formulation work, supplier documentation, sample rounds, packaging compatibility, artwork preparation and production release separately. Name the party responsible for each deliverable and the acceptance criteria. This avoids an apparently complete quotation that leaves important evaluation work outside its scope.
Connect ownership with change control
Agree who owns formula information, artwork and test records, and how revisions are approved. Record the version used for the reference sample. A change of flavor or can may look minor while affecting other parts of the finished product. Keep the specification current rather than treating the first sample as a permanent definition.
Put the decision into your project record
Use a short record that names the product or sample version, the decision required, the supporting information and the person responsible for approval. If a point is unresolved, record the next action before moving to the following approval. This makes the discussion more useful than a general request for the “best” formula or package.
For a production quotation, identify each SKU and its quantity. The current minimum is 3,000 cans per SKU and 9,000 cans per order. Sample evaluation is discussed separately and does not create a production order.
Questions to bring to the discussion
What should I send with this question?
Include the target market, product direction, relevant sample or model code and the decision you want to make. Attach current specifications or evidence where available.
Does this guide establish product effectiveness?
No. It is sourcing and development guidance. Finished-product suitability, claims and commercial terms require a project-specific review.
